As part of Vaikobi's Sponsorship of the 2013 Ocean Series, Vaikobi has supplied the SLS approved Hi Vis Competitor vests for this years rounds to ensure race management can keep track of competitors in all conditions.

Vaikobi has worked hard with Athletes to provide a lightweight and breathable solution for what is a critical safety element for Ocean Racing. The Competitors vest allows for ease of movement and fits snuggly over the PFD, without restricting the movement and temperature regulation for the Athlete.

Feedback after round 1 was extremely positive with many competitors singing the praise of the vest, claiming that it is the most comfortable event vest supplied in the history of the Ocean Series.

Event Director- Peter Hatfield commented that "It was fantastic to be able to keep track of all competitors in the lumpy conditions we enjoyed today. The quality of the Vaikobi gear is second to none and we are stoked to have them come on board this year to supply this critical safety item".

Great conditions for Round 1 of the Vaikobi / www.Heartsmart.me Ocean Series!

Round 1 of the 2013 Vaikobi/ Heartsmart.me Ocean Series was held at Dee Why Surf Club on Saturday September 14th in fantastic conditions which challenged all competitors over a 12km course in between Dee Why and Shelly Beaches.

A strong Nor Easterly had been blowing all night, which left a confused seaway for competitors to navigate around. There were still plenty of great runners to be scored for those who went hunting for them!

A strong turn out of 130 competitors faced the start line which was set offshore past the shore break, and immediately a strong pace was set by the front runners, including Tim Jacobs, Nathan Baggaley, Jim Walker, Cade Barnes and Luke O' Garey.

The lead group ripped around the course in a little under 50 minutes, with Vaikobi's very own Tim Jacobs emerging as overall winner in the Mens, closely followed by Nathan Baggaley, Jim Walker, Cade Barnes

16 SUP's faced the startline for the SUP race which ran from Dee Why Beach and down to Curl Curl and return. The race was taken out by Peter Myer who kept a fast finishing Steve Morrison at bay, followed by Lee Johnson in 3rd. With more of a downwind course scheduled for future rounds of the Ocean Series, we expect to see more starters lining up in the SUP divisions.

Medals Galore for Aussie Team at ICF Ocean Racing Worlds

Vaikobi's Aussie Team came home with plenty of medals after the ICF Ocean Racing Worlds in Portugal.

In the Overall Men's Title, Vaikobi's Tim Jacobs paddled what he termed as the "hardest and most honest" race to finish 2nd behind South Africa's Sean Rice, who emerged as the inaugural World Champion. Aussie Cory Hill finished behind TJ to claim remaining place on the podium. Well done guys and I am sure this has fuelled TJ to go one better next year.

Podium

Other Medals were earned for the Australian Team by Julie Jenkinson (Women Gold Masters 45-49) Michael Booth (U/23 Bronze), Jim Walker (Silver Master 40-44), TK (Silver Masters 60-64)

The Doubles were held on Day 2 and due to lack of boats, the event was split up to accommodate all.

In the Mens Doubles, Tom Norton and Michael Booth teamed up to claim silver.

In the Mixed Doubles exhibition race, Tim Jacobs teamed up with SouthAfrica's new Womens World Champ, Michelle Eray. In the final sprint to the finished with TJ and Eray overtaking, Jasper & Nikki Mocke impeded their run to the finish and were subsequently disqualified after hitting the beach ahead of the TJ / Eray combo. Congratulations to Tim and Michelle.
